Chardonnay, the Great

You’ve no doubt heard people boast that the Chardonnay they’re drinking is buttery and has notes of oak. But is that what makes Chardonnay great? These remarks are on the generic side and there’s more to the Chardonnay than butter and wood. As white wines go, Chardonnay has a full body. There’s a minerally flavor and will often have tones of vanilla, melon, pear, peaches and apricots (often referred to as stone fruits in snooty descriptions) as well as the aforementioned buttery and oaky characteristics.

Because Chardonnay is so widely produced, we feel confident anyone can find one they like. For us, this is what makes Chardonnay great. Perhaps you prefer more fruit and less oak. Or you’re the sort who goes in for out and out buttery-creamy tones. You’re going to be able to find one that suits your taste if you start test driving Chardonnays. Generally, Chardonnays are one of the wines we recommend you keep on hand as part of your standby at all times.

California Chardonnays tend to be rich, golden and sunny - just like the region they hail from. The Chardonnay from Bogle is inexpensive and readily available at many retailers. We also think it’s friendly and delicious. Pair it with chicken, fish, or even classic Grilled Cheese.
